New Moon in Purva Bhadrapada March 2024

New Moon in Purva Bhadrapada
Sunday March 10, 10:00 CET, 26° Aquarius ♒︎

This new moon will be in the nakshatra Purva Bhadrapada, within the sign of Aquarius. This nakshatra is the first of the ‘scorching pair’ that spans from Aquarius into Pisces, transforming visionary air into intuitive water. This nakshatra calls forth our connection with our inner truth and the will to follow our own unique path.

Purva Bhadrapada means “former lucky feet” and is associated with the deity Aja Ekapada, the one-footed goat that arrives in a scorching burst of lightning. Much like lightning striking can ignite a fire, Aja Ekapada is the carrier of Agni, the sacred fire, that both purifies and illuminates.

The symbol for this nakshatra is the first half of a funeral bed (the second part made up the following nakshatra Uttara Bhadrapada, the second one of the scorching pair). This symbol gives rise to thoughts such as what we are leaving behind when we exit this world, or what is the deeper meaning behind it all; our actions, our endeavors, but also to the last purifying fire that engulfs us as our spirit carries on. Another symbol for this nakshatra is that of a man with two faces, calling to mind a person capable of deception, or someone that wishes to hide their true self, of ‘putting on a face’ or hiding behind a mask.

The planetary ruler for Purva Bhadrapada is Jupiter, and as this new moon takes place in the part of this nakshatra that falls within the sign of Aquarius, ruled by Saturn, there is an influence of these two forces that operates here. Jupiter brings out our search for meaning and purpose on the higher expression, but also our greed and materialistic pursuits on the lower side, while Saturn, ‘the stern teacher’, calls us to let go of our attachments and stride forward with determination on the one hand, or that grips us with paralyzing fear or inability to take action on the other. Both of these giants, usually referred to as the ‘teachers’ of the planets – Jupiter the benevolent teacher and Saturn the stern teacher – bring to light the important themes of sticking to our path, without giving up, and creating something meaningful in this life.

Questions for reflection this new moon:

❧ What feels truly important to me at this time? How can I make room for more of this in my life?

❧ What dreams am I longing to manifest? Which steps do I take next to make this a reality?

❧ Where am I bleeding energy? What can I do to protect my energy?

❧ What is my unique gift? What hidden talent am I reluctant to share with the world?

❧ Am I true to my values? Do I feel rooted enough in myself to show my true self in certain (if not all) situations?
