New Moon in Uttara Phalguni

New Moon in Uttara Phalguni 8° Virgo ♍︎

Sunday September 25th, 23:55 CET, 8° Virgo

Bringing the focus into our daily practices and how we can be of service to others.

Uttara Phalguni ‘the star of patronage’

This New Moon will be in the nakshatra Uttara Phalguni, the latter red one, also called ‘the star of patronage’, extending from Leo into the sign of Virgo, creating an abridgement from the fiery sign of passion and children into the service-oriented earth sign, Virgo.

Just like Leo, this nakshatra is also ruled by the Sun, highlighting the qualities of honor, duty and inner truth, but changing the focus from that of following our creative joy or inner truth, to how can I incorporate this into my daily practices while being of service to my family or the people around me. In this sense we are taking the creative ideas from the previous cycle in Leo and transforming them into practical actions in Virgo.

The deity that resides here is Aryaman the god of kindness. In Virgo, this puts an even bigger emphasis on contributing, being of service or dedicating oneself to the healing of others (as well as the self). Aryaman is also a god of righteous behaviour and grace, and is also the god that governs the different kinds of social contracts that we enter into. Be conscious about what you initiate during the New Moon in this nakshatra, as it has an increased potential of commitment and dedication, but also long-term success if you decide to stick with it.

The symbols for this nakshatra are the back legs of a cot, of which the front legs are the symbol for the previous nakshatra Purva Phalguni and together they form the four legs of a bed, which is the symbol of rest and rejuvenation. This is also an opportune time to refine your diet, as exalted Mercury transits through Virgo now as well, heightening our discernment and fine-tuning our senses.

New Moon in Uttara Phalguni

This New Moon will also coincide with Venus moving into the sign of Virgo, and close to Mercury retrograde here as well, plus aspected by Jupiter retrograde in Pisces, so there will be an increased focus on the Virgo energy during this Moon cycle. The emphasis on Virgo energy, plus so many planets in retrograde, makes this a great time for de-cluttering, re-organizing and re-structuring our daily routines and work, to consider what it is we feed our energy into with the actions that we perform every single day, because those are the tings that create (or hinder) our long-term success. Are my daily actions taking me closer toward health/healing/my desired goals, or am I operating from the conception of ‘I want to do ‘…’ and I will do ‘…’ when I have the time’?

This New Moon can shed light on some of those topics, so use this time to write down whatever thoughts may surface, make lists or keep your journal close by. Being aspected by Jupiter, this New Moon can also bring spiritual insights or intuitive ideas about how to proceed with certain projects, or perhaps a new way to go about something.

Some questions for reflection:

❧ What commitments do I adhere to? Are they necessary or useful, or do I need to let some of them go?
❧ Am I trying to do too much? Am I able to uphold my daily routines, or are they suffering as a result of me trying to juggle too many things?
❧ Am I promoting a life of healing or am I in a cycle of ‘shoulda-woulda-coulda’? Do I need to re-evaluate my priorities?
❧ Am I able to transform my creative ideas into applicable practices?

Success is easily mistaken for discipline (Mars), but in reality it is mostly fueled by consistency (Saturn).

New Moon blessings!
