Last month was tinged by powerful conjunctions and tumultuous transits, urging us to slow down, reassess and go within.

A majority of retrograde planets – six planets retrograde

This month will carry a lot of those same energies, with a majority of the planets in their retrograde cycle, pushing us to look inward and be patient. However, we will also have an influx of creative, potentially restless, energy operating at the same time, forcing us to navigate between different emotional polarities. I suspect that this month we’ll feel an urge to move forward and get things going, while at the same time experiencing delays, obstacles or a feeling of being stuck or of things not moving fast enough.

Planetary transits for September

The interplay between opposing energies that this month brings, leads me to think about when you’re on a stopover at the airport, waiting on a connecting flight, only to find out that it’s delayed and you’re waiting and waiting, for hours on end, without knowing when the next flight’s departing, unable to go anywhere and you’re growing more and more restless and eager to just get going..

Venus in Leo September 1 – 24

Venus can bring out a more extroverted energy when moving into fiery and passionate Leo right at the beginning of the month, expressing our longing to create and enjoy ourselves. Venus is the planet that seeks connections and represents our social life, both our friends as well as our romantic partners, so this energy can make us want to go out, have fun and meet new people. This is also a great time for creative pursuits and artistic projects, so if you’re into art, dancing or music, let your Venus energy guide you and have fun creating!

However, Venus in Leo can also lead to a wanting of constant stimulation and can therefore create feelings of restlessness, so keep this in mind as well, and look for practical things (or fun, creative things) that you can do to keep your energy flowing and your mind at ease! This transit is also beneficial for livening up our romantic side, making for increased flirtatious energy or infusing our current relationships with new passion.

Mercury retrograde in Virgo September 10 – October 2

This feeling of restlessness can intensify when the other communicative planet Mercury starts its retrograde cycle in Virgo on September 10th, leading to a total number of six planets in retrograde motion! Virgo is Mercury’s sign of exaltation; where Mercury’s qualities of discernment and analytical capabilities comes into their best effect, so this is overall a beneficial transit. However, while in retrograde, Mercury can make us get caught up in details, or make calculative errors, so check your work carefully but don’t get lost in the minor details.

Venus debilitated in Virgo September 24 – October 18

Venus moves into Virgo as well by the end of the month, which is its sign of debilitation; the sign where Venus’ qualities are at their most disadvantageous, meaning Venus’ quality of wanting to make things beautiful doesn’t do well in analytical and perfectionistic Virgo. Venus in Virgo has a tendency to find fault with everything (and everyone) which really can put a damper on the creative joy. This Venus transit puts even more importance on remembering to let the little things go, and to not get stuck in the details.

With so many planets going ‘backwards’ this month, I get the sense that things will feel like they’re not moving forward like usual, projects getting stuck or a feeling that time just passed us by when we weren’t looking. This is also a time for introspection and self evaluation, of looking over things that pertains to our work, routines and practical details that we encounter in our daily life.

Besides the practical matters that the earth signs indicate, there might be something dealing with our emotional maturity or spiritual discipline in need of integrating as well. With Mars transiting Taurus during this time, this is a window of opportunity to see how and when we can incorporate spiritual practices into our daily routines.

As my final words for this month’s update, I will say; look inward, evaluate where and on what you spend your time, and how you can make better use of the time that you have. This is not the time for quick fixes, aim instead for doing just one thing at a time, with presence and care. Progress, not perfection!
